Live the Impossible by Jenny Smith Book Review and Giveaway

Image
ABOUT THE BOOK  Jenny Smith was a typical teenager—a gymnast and athlete who loved hair and makeup, played in a band, and was active in her church youth group. Then one bright summer morning, a spinal cord injury left her paralyzed from the chest down and dependent on others for her most basic needs. Privacy and independence seemed like things of the past. But Jenny refused to give up or give in to her disability, and over time she discovered that a wheelchair could take her places she’d never dared to imagine. She’s traveled multiple times to Afghanistan and Mexico for wheelchair distributions and sports camps, and even rolled the New York City runway as a model during Fashion Week. Today, Jenny Smith is a spokesperson for independent and vibrant living with a disability. Her speeches, articles, and social media presence have touched thousands of lives. In  Live the Impossible , Smith shares what it looks like to live with paralysis, from the everyday details most people never think a

The Faith of Mike Pence by Leslie Montgomery Book Review and Giveaway

Image
ABOUT THE BOOK Several books have been published about Vice President Mike Pence, but none have touched upon what may be the most fascinating aspect of our nation’s second in command: his deep faith. The Faith of Mike Pence  offers an intimate look at the man who calls himself “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.” Author Leslie Montgomery details Pence’s spiritual journey and examines how the vice president’s commitment to Christ has been a key component in his life as a husband, father, and public servant. Montgomery examines Pence’s encounters with politicos and evangelistic leaders such as James Dobson and Charles Lake. She shows the role of Pence’s faith in running for various offices, implementing faith-based initiatives, and responding to 9/11, the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the infamous Anthrax scare in Congress that directly affected him. The Faith of Mike Pence  is a powerful account of one of the most conservative vice presidents in A

Elton John's Rocketman Movie Review

Image
Rocketman  takes us into the life of Elton John from when he was a little boy to when he started cleaning himself up from drugs and alcohol.  It opens with Elton John, played by Taron Egerton, storming into a AA meeting in full regalia, an orange-red sequence devil outfit with huge feather wings.  He narrates the story during his AA meeting.  Elton John's songs are used to tell throughout the film to help show the significant moments in his life. The film contains many montages: everything from John's hits rising up the charts; the concerts, headlines, fans; shopping sprees; trying on various clothing pieces such as his hats and glasses.   The real Elton John served as an executive producer and mentor to Taron Egerton on the film. He didn't really want to be on set every day because he didn't know if this would cause him to be triggered so his boyfriend made sure the film does Elton justice.   Taron Egerton blew me away. Egerton is known for his role in the act
