Halloween Fun and History

When did our traditions of Halloween happen?  Over 2,000 years ago Halloween started in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and northwestern France from an ancient pagan festival celebrated by Celtic people. It marked the beginning of the winter season.  The Christain church started the All Saint's Day which was called All Hallows' Eve later warping into the word Halloween. Trick or Treating was an adult event. People would leave food out on a table as a treat for spirits. In some areas of the United Kingdom and Ireland, people went mumming (parading in masks).  They would go door to door asking for food and drink in return for a performance or song. On November 5, Guy Fawkes Day, people dressed in costume and asking for food or money. Recently, I went to the Halloween Night at Greenfield Village. Throughout the park they had treat station which gave out candy. In the hotel, I poured out all the treats I got. Guess what?! All of the candy they gave out I could only have one piece of candy. I am glad I am 32 years old and can deal with the sadness, but if I was little kid I would be crying.  It makes me so frustrated with events like this who don't think about kids with food allergies. There is no reason why they couldn't hand out pencils, pens, history pamphlets about Halloween, Halloween pins etc.  Anyways now that I had my little sputtering. Halloween is a lot of fun except when you have food allergies. I am very proud our society is seeing this and started an awareness program called the Pumpkin Project by putting out a teal colored pumpkin on your front porch. This tells parents the person is handing out non-food items. Our society is slowly understanding food allergies, but it is still easy and
