Hold Me Close by Marguerite Martin Gray Book Review

ABOUT THE BOOK

The leisurely life Louis has intended does not include revolution.

Charles Town, South Carolina, 1772—Louis Lestarjette arrives from France without purpose or plans beyond reconnecting with family and making a profit. Finding the town questioning its alliances, Louis must make decisions about the direction in his life, even as he tries to avoid all political conflict. He wonders if he will be able to stay neutral in a battle for independence. When decisive events confront him, Louis finds himself torn between staying with the woman he loves or escaping the coming conflicts.

Elizabeth Elliott trusts that God will hold her close in uncertain and changing times. Faced with difficult decisions about her loyalties, she finds comfort in close friends, a devout sister, and her music. When the mysterious Frenchman with no commitment to God or Charles Town enters her life, he challenges her role in the political battle. She must decide what actions she can take for the cause, if any at all.

Book Review
I was so excited to get this book because I love historical romance fiction books.  Elizabeth and Louis are very complex and interesting characters. Elizabeth is very opinionated and a patriot at heart all while her father is a pure Loyalist.  Louis Lesterjet who came from France landed in the middle of the Revolutionary War causing him to choose sides. Will Elizabeth and Louis become a romantic couple?  Well, you will have to read it to find out.  I can't stress how great this book is. The book has so many historical details. The events that are leading up to the American Revolution. The plot has so many conflicts but is also subtle too. I couldn't put the book down and didn't want it to end. The story felt so realistic like it could be Elizabeth and Louis's biography. Marguerite Gray did her research including social customs. This is book one of the series and can't wait to read book number two.

The Circus Thief is a heartwarming tale of boyhood set in 1920s Pennsylvania for children ages 4–8.

My Book Review
Alane Adams's The Cirus Thief is a really good story for kids. It illustrates an adventure, a lesson and life. Amazing book for bedtime story and for kids learning how to read. The illustrations are well thought out. Every page is full of color and imagination. It reminds me a lot of the Greatest Showman movie. I would recommend getting this book.

“The circus is bursting with amazing sights and sounds, from clowns and elephants to a lady with a beard, in The Circus Thief, a delightfully nostalgic tale of compassion, kindness, and generosity.” ―Foreword Clarion Reviews

“Bright, brave characters star in this exhilarating tale of magic and mystical creatures.” ―Kirkus Reviews
