MY BOOK REVIEW
When I was offered "Soul Mends" to read I didn't let it slip by. I love reading self-help books. Life is hard and it can sure beat you up. My life isn't going the way I was hoping it would be. This causes me to have endless stress and even at time severe depression. There are days when I feel like God hates me because why would he give me all these medical problems?

"Soul Mends" is divided into three sections the foundational truths, cause, and repair of damaged emotions and continue to overcome.
The topics throughout the book address panic attacks, anxiety, fear, guilt, fear of rejection depression, stress, trauma, negative thoughts, inability to let go of past hurt,  and negative emotions. Dunnuck uses her life experiences and characters from the Bible as examples.  We need to keep in mind our emotional health can affect our physical state. You have to get to the root of what is causing your anxiety.

I thought it was interesting when she talked about how emotions and negative thought patterns can be handed down.  The technique she uses is easy to follow and rewarding. At the end of each chapter, she has some inspirational, powerfully positive prayer and thought-provoking questions.

It is reader-friendly and easy to understand.  I learned new ways to support my healing relationship with God through prayers with intent.  I would suggest getting a journal and jot down information that stands out to you as well as how you are feeling emotionally while reading each page.

Ask God for his guidance and be open to the path he gives. God is only trying to make us stronger. He puts people in your path to help you get through things.  In 2007, I was so sick. I got down to 54 pounds. The doctors couldn't figure out why I was dropping weight so much. Food with right through me. I would eat and 5 minutes later I would have explosive diarrhea. I was in and out of the hospital. Mayo Clinic wasn't helpful. One night I had a bad seizure and went to the ER. A doctor at the ER took an interest in trying to figure out what is going on. The ER doctor opened up a clinic for people who use the ER for drugs. He slipped me into the clinic. He figured it out. Once I was putting weight back on the clinic closed and I wasn't able to see that doctor anymore.

I may not understand God's plan for me, but I have to trust he knows what He is doing.

"When we surrender our heart and soul to God, He comes to our rescue."

If you are suffering from depression, anxiety, panic attacks, mental health problems, and stress I would highly recommend reading "Soul Mend". There are many helpful tips on making your life a little more enjoyable.  This would be a great book for high school counselors, counselors, psychologists, church, and your own library.

I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

More from Luann

SOUL MEND was written to break people out of their emotional chains! I know first hand what such things as anxiety, strife, guilt, and unforgiveness feel like. I know first hand how devasting these emotions can be on the physical body. After walking through some of these issues and recovering from a debilitating diagnosis I decided it was time to go back to school, get my counseling degree, and help other people!  In SOUL MEND I cover the three sources of negative thinking and how they impact our emotional and physical health. There are chapters on; a broken heart, stress, guilt, self-reproach, anxiety, and anger/bitterness.  Each chapter contains study questions to help the reader identify and heal from toxic emotions. The book ends on an uplifting and encouraging note on how God created you to walk in His destiny and His goodness. There is always a purpose in your pain and the Bible is clear that what the enemy meant for evil God promises to turn around for God when we seek Him (Genesis 50:20, Romans 8:28). I am excited to go on this journey with you and help you discover the healing and destiny that awaits you.
