Dangerous Beauty by Melissa Koslin

ABOUT THE BOOK

Liliana Vela hates the term victim. She's not a victim, she's a fighter. Stubborn and strong with a quiet elegance, she's determined to take back her life after escaping the clutches of human traffickers in her poor Mexican village. But she can't stay safely over the border in America--unless the man who aided in her rescue is serious about his unconventional proposal to marry her.

Meric Toledan was just stopping at a service station for a bottle of water. Assessing the situation, he steps in to rescue Liliana from the traffickers. If he can keep his secrets at bay, his wealth and position afford him many resources to help her. But the mysterious buyer who funded her capture will not sit idly by while his prize is stolen from him.

Melissa Koslin throws you, right into the middle of the action in this high-stakes thriller that poses the question: What is the price of freedom?

BOOK REVIEW

"Dangerous Beauty" is a suspense romance novel. Liliana Vela fears for her life. She is running away where no one will find her. She stops at a truck stop.  She meets a man, Meric Toledan, who tells her he can help her. He is a man of his word. She can't figure out why he wants to help her.

Melissa Koslin, the author, tells the story from Liliana and Meric's point of view. Both of these characters are struggling in many aspects of their life including their faith. These characters are realistic and relatable.   I felt for both of these characters. We see how they both deal with their past and current life traumas.

Koslin does a beautiful job telling a sex-trafficking story without being too graphic. It is well-balanced its not suspense all the time. There are breathing rooms in the story to allow the reader to get to know these characters more. I love how Meric allows Liliana to choose her own path at her own pace. I love how she steps out and helps others who have gone through things like she did. Both of these characters have flaws. Meric has his own demons chasing him. Meric doesn't really share his emotions. He doesn't want to be like his father who was cruel and selfish.  Meric works undercover to save sex-trafficked women. God was looking out for Liliana and put Meric in her path.

I respected how he treated her. He knew how to be as safe as possible around women who have been sexually assaulted and had no trust in men. Sadly, Liliana escaped her captors. The suspense remained high due to many attempts to recapture Liliana. The bad guy tried to frame Meric as a criminal in order to get her away from his protection. He helped her escape.  They fell in love with each other. She is a very smart woman who quickly adapted to living in America. She could have just hidden away, but she didn't choose to fight her fears and rescue others. She wasn't afraid of much and was willing to fight for what was right.

This is my first Melissa Koslin book and it won't be my last. She is a beautiful writer. I couldn't put the book down. Just so you know the sexual aspect of trafficking is not the main theme.  I really enjoyed reading this book.

"I was given a copy from Revell for an honest opinion."
