The Well Conference - A Must to Attend!

Image
Last year, I found myself having the opportunity to attend " The Well Conference " . I have never heard of this conference. After going to it, I wish I knew about them sooner.  The Well is a place where creatives can be equipped, engaged, and encouraged. Their ministry serves writers, actors, artists, speakers, and more. The staff and faculty are here to help creatives take the next important steps in the journey of becoming all they are meant to be. The Well Conference is a large annual event in the spring, and they host smaller workshops and retreats throughout the year. They also offer virtual workshops and pieces of training online. There is a growing online resource of supporters so that creatives can network to get the type of help they need in their area of gifting.  I heard about it through Compass College of Film and Media. They had two extra tickets. God works in amazing ways.  They have a few different tracks. Their tracks were 1. Marketing 2. Public Speaking 3. Co

First Disabled Actress Ali Stroker Wins a Tony Award

Image
On Sunday night I tuned into the Tony Awards.   Oklahoma  performed the number "I Can't Say No."  I noticed a woman in a wheelchair playing Ado Annie. I wiped my eyes making sure I was seeing things right and yes I was. I was watching Ali Stroker make history by being the first person to win a Tony Award in a wheelchair.  She accepted the award for the best-featured actress.  This is amazing because people with disabilities should be able to play parts even if they can't use their legs or have other conditions. Ali Stoker, a 31-year-old woman from New Jersey who ended up in a wheelchair at the age of two years old from a car accident. She has been active in theater since the age of seven. She was cast as the titular role in a backyard production of Annie . "This award is for every kid who is watching tonight who has a disability, who has a limitation or a challenge who has been waiting to see themselves represented in this arena -- you are. I hope tha

Whitney Movie Review

Image
Whitney After six years, a well thought out documentary on Whitney Houston has been made.  Whitney is an in-depth look at the life and music of Whitney Houston. Through two hours Kevin Macdonald, writer/director, gave an insight of what Whitney was going through throughout her life and career. The movie opens up with a variety of what was happening during the year 1960s during Whitney’s childhood. Many snapshots and videos showing what her parents had to deal with while raising her and her brothers in Newwark, New Jersey with all the violence and race riots. The film then speeds fast forward to the 1980s where her career really takes off. We see her getting booed at the Soul Awards because the African American community felt she was turning white. Fame was slowing catching up to her. Whitney enjoyed sex and did play around with her sexuality trying to keep it secret to the press until she met R&B artist Bobby Brown. He changed her life for the better and for the worse.
