Greenfield Village Halloween Fun Event

The Greenfield Village's Holiday Evening event is amazing so I couldn't wait for the Halloween Event. I have been to the Village's Holiday Evening two times. There is no words to express how much fun that event is. I have never been to the Halloween event, but if its like the Holiday Event then I will not be disappointed.

These events sell out fast so if you want to go you need to get your tickets in advance. You can sign up for the 6:30pm, 7:00pm, 7:30pm, 8:00pm, 8:30pm, 9:00pm, 9:30pm. It seemed you can only be in the park for 30 minutes. I can't walk all of Greenfield Village in 30 minutes. Come to find out they do that so they can spread out the crowd a little.

On October 14th at 8:30 pm, a group of my friends and I went to the Greenfield Village's Halloween Evening Event.

Parking is a pain. We find if you park in the Henry Ford Museum enterence it is the same distance as if you park in the parking lot on the side of Greenfield Village enterence.  Plus, my handicap sticker came in handy. I can't stress enough to make sure you have enough time to find parking lot because if you are 15 minutes late they will resell your ticket.

We were lucky because it was a very nice evening. It was 52 degrees and partly cloudy.
As we walked into the gates we noticed this huge line. I saw there are other enterence gate lines, so we went into that line and got in quicker.

They gave us a map and a treat bag. We walk along a path lit by 1,000 hand-carved jack-o-lanterns. There is a variety of storybrook characters such as the Queen of Hearts, Alice, Wizard of Oz, Red Riding Hood and more.   There is craft beers, warm apple cide and fresh doughnuts to purchase. There is skeletons, dancing and singing pumpkins.  New to 2018 you can experience a special effects of the 19th century with a thrilling magic lantern show, and wander through a chilling dreamscape for the imagination in Thomas Edison's Menlo Park.  The path has a variety of acts such The Top Hat Sideshow -- A Carnival Vaudevill Act! This carnival act includes fire and magic tricks.  There is live music, old halloween cartoons being played on a big screen and my favorite the Headless Horseman.

Sadly not all of the houses were lit up or decorated. I felt like it would have been the paths more fun because there was a lot of the path with nothing so it got a little boring. The paths were not well lit up well. The carved lit pumpkins were really cool, but everyone kept tripping over them and strollers kept runing over them and smashing them.
I was really hoping to walk through the park and learn about the history of Halloween through the decades like they do for the Christmas event. There was maybe a couple decoration and characters of the past. Don't plan on going through any of the buildings because they are closed for this event.

You can choose from seven times. They are : 6:30pm, 7:00pm, 7:30pm, 8:00pm, 8:30pm, 9:00pm, 9:30pm.  I would suggest doing the 6:30pm or 7:00pm one becausse you can take your time through the paths and watching the entertainment. We went at the 8:30pm time and had a hard time getting to see everything. Also if you go later in the evening you see less cute carved pumpkins because they have been rolled over and stepped on.

This event is great for kids but don't plan on leaving with a full treat bag. There was only 10 treat stations. They handed out chips, twix, pixy sticks, twizzlers, and starburst. I wish they didn't give out food because there are so many kids now adays with food allergies. It would have been really cool if they handed out like pencils, or small coloring books, etc.

Don't get me wrong there are a lot of a cool decorations and I enjoyed myself. My favorite was the headless horseman and the running carousel with ghosts riding the horses with a strobe light. There was even a phantom of the opera in the church building. There was a lot of opportunities to get some cute pictures with the characters.

There wasn't a lot of food choices. They had hot apple cider and donuts, but there were only one place to get it so the lines were really long. I was really hoping they had some caramal apples.

Tip if you go with a group of friends or family make sure to wear something that only your family or friends know. I went with my mom, and three other friends and we kept loosing each other in the crowd. We yelled "Marco" and "Polo" but then people started yelling out polo so it didn't help us find each other. Bring a good camera that takes great pictures in the dark because it is dark and there is a lot of photo stops.
