MY BOOK REVIEW

I was so excited to read this book because I am a filmmaker who loves Hollywood. "Mission Hollywood" was so much fun to read. It a love story with real-life complications. Movie star, Ben Prescott and pastor's daughter, Lily Shaw collide together due to chain of events. These chains of events take them both on a journey neither of them anticipated. They are complete opposites. Lily Shaw lives and loves God and Ben Prescott loves God on and off. Each character deals with a variety of struggles. At times they don't handle them the right way building tension between them. Ben's agent adds tension to the story.
Ben grew up in a churchgoing yet abusive home.
Lily and Ben's relationship felt real. We see these characters dealing with real emotions. In some aspect, I felt like I was reading a biography of their life like it really happened. Throughout the book, Lily is being disrespected by her father and brother. Ben made some unwanted moves on her, but her father kept inviting him over for dinner and church events. Lily has some great friends who were there for her and responded with kindness and not judgment.
Michelle Keener did an amazing job of using humor, life and love to help deal with some of the heavy truths in this book. I had the hardest time putting this book down. There is so much love and truths in this book. I look forward to reading more books of hers.

Why Hollywood?

That’s a great question! Of all the places I could have set a Christian romance novel, why pick Hollywood? It isn’t exactly the first place that pops into your mind when you think Christian romance, right?

The truth is I spent four years of my life trying to become an actress. I was a theatre major in the Los Angeles area and I spent a lot of time in Hollywood. I’ve been down Hollywood Boulevard, visited casting offices, and gone to open-call auditions. In those years, I saw the good and the bad of the movie industry. I saw dreams shattered and hearts broken under the glamorous lights of the Sunset Strip. Years later, when I started thinking about writing a Christian romance, I knew Hollywood was the perfect setting to tell the story of God’s unchanging, never-ending love for us.

Mission Hollywood isn’t just one love story, it’s two. The romance between Ben and Lily is definitely swoon-worthy, but there is also the story of how much God loves us. I hope you enjoy Mission Hollywood…it’s only the beginning of the story for the Shaw Family. Book two is coming in February!
