The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center is a premier research center for celiac disease in the United States and the world. I received an article in my email about their a little bit of the research they are doing and what they are starting to find out. The more research we can get the more likely there could be a cure. RESEARCH IN PROGRESS... 1. Evidence that viral infections play a role in celiac disease. The prevalence of celiac disease continues to rise, suggesting that environmental factors must trigger and precipitate the disease. For a long time, it was suspected that viruses might play a role in celiac disease, and more generally in autoimmunity.
